OBITUARY - Ian (Stevie) Davidson

It is with sadness we report the untimely death of our friend and colleague Mr Ian (Stevie) Davidson.

Mr Davidson was employed by Alfred Cheyne Engineering Ltd (ACE Winches) for the last 12 months.

Mr Davidson was employed as a Winch and Wire Spooling Technician.

Mr Davidson travelled both in the UK and worldwide during his work.  Known as Stevie he was a popular, dedicated, hard working and well respected individual both with work colleagues and company clients.

Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.

Alfie Cheyne
CEO

Statements from Stevie's Colleagues

A proud, honourable, hard working man and respectful individual.  Having known Stevie for only just over a year he has left a lasting impression on me.  Stevie was a fantastic guy and nothing ever phased him or troubled him.  He went about his daily work in a professional manner, giving 100% at all times to both the company and his fellow workers.  Stevie was a team player and always lent a hand, keen to show and train others and would always willingly pass on his knowledge and show by example.

Stevie was always willing to try something new.  During his time at ACE he quickly became one of the boys, a leader amongst men and had the ability to take on new challenges and tasks delivering only the highest standard of work on time.  Stevie was a popular, respected and well liked friend and colleague to all staff.

I really enjoyed Stevie's company and his sense of humour, I recall a great day out with Stevie at the Deveronvale and Buckie match in October.  Stevie's enthusiasm for Vale kept us all in great form.

Stevie will be sadly missed by all at ACE but forever in our thoughts.

Alfie Cheyne, CEO

“Stevie always showed a high level of professionalism and ability to deal with difficult situations and clients.  Due to this Stevie was selected for a number of high level jobs in various locations worldwide and was a highly capable offshore technician within ACE organisation.   Stevie will be a big loss to the company.

Stevie’s enthusiasm extended out-with work.  I recently was in the company of Stevie during a boxing night sponsored by the company.  It was myself that organised the evening and Stevie showed keenness from the word go.  The night was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended.  The memory that sticks in my mind from the evening was the heavy snow fall and the snowball fight between Stevie and Robert Barron after closing time.

Stevie will be sadly missed by all and I am saddened that I will not have the opportunity to get to know Stevie better”

James Gregg, Technical Director

“Stevie was my favourite guy to work with. We knew how one another worked and could almost read one another’s minds. We never needed to discuss much during a job because when I worked with Stevie, everything just came together.

I loved his sense of humour; he was always laughing and was shortsome to be around. No matter how hard the job was, Stevie could always lift you up by making you laugh. His favourite saying was always “Look busy, keep out of trouble”

Alex Smart

During the short time that I have worked with Stevie, we have worked on various projects around the world but I think that he enjoyed his time in Argentina the most. On the plane, on the way out and back from Argentina, we were in business class. Stevie said “this was the way to go to work”

I had not long changed out with Stevie in Hull when I had to inform the guys there of what had happened. They were done, really shocked. They enjoyed working with Stevie; he was a good worker and was always having a joke. They asked for their condolences to be passed onto the family.

On a more personal note, I can say that Stevie was ‘happy go lucky’ he was a good friend, a good workmate, a happy guy to have around. He will be sorely missed”

Bill Cumming

“Stevie had a good/funny sense of humour, he never had a bad word to say about anybody, he was a hard worker who never turned down a chance to do something different and he was always keen to do his job.

He never liked to ask help only when he was completely stuck and I would show him what to do and he would say that it was "nae probs Stevie I will ken next time and I winna hae ti bother yi cheers min” He was quite enthusiastic and always had plenty of energy and was always willing to lend a hand or work late to help out.

I think that he will be a sad miss to all at ACE and he will be remembered for the tasks that he did at ACE and I am very sorry that I will not be home for the funeral but we will be thinking of all his family and friends who will miss him”

Steve Smith, Hydraulic & Service Department Charge Hand

“Stevie had a very good sense of humour, a real happy guy never got excited about much, just held the same mood all day or night. He was always looking for something to do and would see the job through regardless of the time of day, "can I be of any assistance" he used to say, if you were struggling to do something. He was willing and helpful.

He would always ask for advice when seeing you were not busy, as he did not like to waste your time. He enjoyed keeping up to date with his local football team. It’s hard to believe what’s happened.

He will be sorely missed at work as good reliable work colleague and a pal”

John Barron, Factory Coordinator

“Stevie had a great sense of humour, he was always up for a laugh, and hard working & enthusiastic in his work. He was a good workmate to all at ACE and a friend to many, and could make you laugh just by a look or by raising an eyebrow; he enjoyed a news and a laugh. He was never one to say no to a job, always ready to lend a hand & work late to see the job through.

Stevie was respected & well liked by all his workmates & will be sorely missed by all.
A great loss”

Garry Nicoll, Hire Fleet Department Charge Hand

“What can I say about Stevie that hasn’t been said already?  He was my friend as well as my work mate.  He was always happy, always joking and always up for a giggle.  I knew him from before he started at ACE but I really got to know him through our time together in Sakhalin.  We hit it off straight away and had some great times.  I will miss him dearly.  And my thoughts are with his family through this tragic time.”
